Our Story
On October 3, 2024, Demetris A. Jones, President of Flaming Elephant Films, and his team set out on a mission to assist the Shiloh district of Asheville, North Carolina, in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Armed with supplies and a determination to help, they spent the day providing aid to a community ravaged by the storm.
As Demetris worked alongside his counterparts, he felt an overwhelming sense of joy and purpose. It was as if the universe was gently nudging him toward a deeper calling. On the drive back to South Carolina, as the weight of the day settled, he realized something profound—his purpose in life was to serve others and leave the world better than he found it.
Demetris envisioned using the art of film to create streams of income that would fund his mission. He imagined a system where independent filmmakers could produce high-quality films using equipment donated by camera and lighting companies. In exchange for these donations, the companies would receive tax deductions. The films would then generate income, and a portion of that income would be dedicated to fighting hunger and homelessness.
As the idea grew, so did his ambition. What if major movie theaters and studios could be inspired to do the same? What if this initiative could create a ripple effect across the film industry? Demetris's vision expanded to include scholarships for high school students to pursue higher education and grants for entrepreneurs to start businesses, further boosting local economies, job creation, and stability.
In the days that followed, this realization grew into a burning mission: to eradicate hunger and homelessness. But the question remained—how? With no clear path forward, Demetris dedicated himself to finding an answer. After deep contemplation, he discovered the solution lay in his greatest talent: filmmaking.
Ndovu Films now stands as a beacon of hope, channeling the power of creativity and storytelling to tackle some of the world's most pressing issues. Through partnerships with filmmakers, donors, and businesses, the organization not only creates cinematic art but also drives meaningful change, providing food, shelter, education, and opportunities to those who need them most.
From this grand idea, Ndovu Films was born—a non-profit film company with a mission to transform lives and communities through the power of cinema. Demetris wasted no time. On October 7, 2024, he filed for 501(c)(3) status, a process that typically takes several months. In a serendipitous turn of events, just ten days later, on October 17, Ndovu Films received its approval. To Demetris, this was a sign from the universe, affirming his purpose.
